The arrest of two women from Haridwar by the Jammu and Kashmir Police over suspected financial transactions linked to Pakistan within a span of less than 10 days has caused concern among security agencies in Uttarakhand.
After the arrest of Sonam, a resident of Asafnagar village in Haridwar’s Kaliyar Kotwali area, on May 26 for her alleged involvement in financial transactions connected to Pakistan, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on June 4 took her friend Pooja into custody for further investigation.

The two women were arrested following information provided by Rahul Khan, a resident of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir. Khan, who was arrested from the Lakhanpur police station area of Kathua district, allegedly disclosed his links with Pakistan and his connections with Sonam and Pooja in Haridwar during questioning.
According to police sources, Khan, who is accused of facilitating financial transactions worth crores of rupees from Pakistan, revealed the involvement of Sonam, a resident of Asafnagar village in Dhanauri under the Kaliyar police station area.
Haridwar Police said Rahul Khan informed the Jammu and Kashmir Police that he had been operating bank accounts in Sonam’s name for carrying out illegal financial transactions. Police sources further stated that Sonam allegedly transferred funds to various states on Khan’s behalf in return for a fixed commission.
A Haridwar Police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Pooja, a resident of Dhanauri in Haridwar, had introduced Sonam to a man identified as Umar, who subsequently connected her with Rahul Khan.
Haridwar Police added that Jammu and Kashmir Police had earlier arrested Sonam and taken her to Jammu and Kashmir for investigation. Subsequently, information surfaced regarding another woman allegedly involved in the transactions. Acting on these inputs, a Jammu and Kashmir Police team arrived in Dhanauri on Wednesday and took Pooja into custody.
After obtaining her transit remand, the team left with Pooja on the evening of June 4 for further investigation.
Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navneet Singh Bhullar confirmed that the Jammu and Kashmir Police questioned Pooja and took her along for further investigation.
