Delhi: Elderly woman hit by speeding vehicle, dies
According to police, the 65-year-old woman, who was identified as Janki Kumari, died after she was allegedly hit by a speeding car near her house in Jheel Khurenja area near Geeta Colony.
In the early hours today, a collision between a truck and a motorcycle at Kaliatala More area in Sonarpur, South 24-Parganas, claimed the lives of two individuals.
One person sustained injuries in the accident, while the situation escalated when another two motorcycles collided with the wreckage, resulting in two additional fatalities. The severely injured individual was admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment. Following the accident, the truck driver, deemed responsible for the collision, fled the scene but was apprehended by angry locals. An enraged crowd detained the driver and called for his arrest, blocking the road in protest. Local residents express deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the roads in the area, citing prolonged neglect and lack of maintenance.
Despite multiple complaints, there has been no substantial improvement, leading to heightened risks for commuters. Authorities remain unresponsive, with no visible efforts to address the long-standing road issues. Locals claim that even though incidents involving reckless truck drivers are not uncommon in the region, law enforcement has failed to take adequate measures to ensure road safety.

In this tragedy, witnesses report that two young men, identified as Vicky and Debajyoti Mazumdar, were on their way to work along with another companion. A speeding truck from the opposite direction collided head-on with their motorcycle. The community demands immediate action from the police and authorities to prevent further such incidents and improve the overall road conditions in the Sonarpur area.
