Incarcerated gangster Abu Salem’s parole plea for wedding was rejected by Navi Mumbai Commissioner, as per media reports on Saturday.

Gangster Salem had sought 45 days to get married for a second time to Syed Bahar Kausar. He is currently serving life sentence for 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. Salem is lodged in Taloja Jail in Maharashtra.

As per media reports, Salem under the Special Marriages Act, wrote to the Taloja jail authorities, asking for parole to tie the knot with the 27-year-old Syed Bahar Kausar on 5 May.

Salem has claimed that he married Kausar on phone, while he was on his way to a court hearing in Lucknow, media reports added.

On the afternoon of March 12, 1993, a series of 13 blasts in quick succession went off at various locations in Mumbai city and suburbs, killing 257 people and injuring over 700 others.

The prime targeted locations included the Air India Building, Bombay Stock Exchange, Zaveri Bazar, then existing five star hotels, Hotel SeaRock and Hotel Juhu Centaur, and others leading to damage to public and private properties worth Rs 27 crore.

Salem, who was extradited from Portugal in 2005, was found guilty of supplying the arms and ammunition, including the deadly RDX, which were used in the blasts.

Salem was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special Terrorist and Disruptive Activity (TADA) Court last year for his role in the blasts in which 257 people were killed and 713 were injured. He is also serving life term for the murder of city builder Pradeep Jain.
