14 kids among 18 hospitalised after electrocution during yatra in Kota

Fourteen children were among 18 people carrying the flags in their hands were injured after they came in contact with a high-tension power cable during ‘Mahashivratri Yatra’ in the Kunhari area of Kota City.

Most of the victims had to be rushed to the MBM Government Hospital of the city where the condition of a few children is said to be critical with serious burns they sustained in electrocution, a police headquarters report said here.

Scores of people took part in the Yatra this afternoon when 18 of the processionists were electrocuted as the rods of their flags touched live wires. There was chaos in the yatra following the incident. However, the electrocuted children were rescued with the help of locals and were rushed to the MBM Hospital.

Rajasthan Chie Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed grief over the accident and instructed officials to provide all possible medical assistance to the injured.

The CM, in an X post, said, “I request Lord Neelkanth for the speedy recovery of the injured citizens. Appropriate instructions have been given to the administration to provide all possible medical aid to the injured”.

Lok Sabha Speaker and local MP Om Birla visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the victims. He said if necessary, seriously injured children would be referred to other hospitals.
