Snowfall and bad weather on Tuesday forced the authorities to cancel at least 12 flights at Srinagar airport.

The Jammu-Srinagar highway was also shut for vehicular traffic due to snow, shooting stones, landslides and mudslides at several places.

Srinagar airport authorities said 12 flights of Indigo Airlines have so far been cancelled.

The traffic police said that the Jammu-Srinagar highway was blocked due to inclement weather, snow and heavy rains leading to landslides and shooting stones along NH-44, the road was blocked at Dalwas, Mehad-Cafeteria, Ramban, Chamlwas, Gangroo.

Shooting stones were also triggered at T2-tunnel, Jaiswal bridge, Gangro, Marog, Sherbibi and other places along the highway. It was heavily raining along the highway.

People have been advised to avoid travelling on NH-44 till the weather improves and the road is cleared.

The Kashmir Valley witnessed snow and incessant rains in the plains of Jammu.

Moderate to heavy snowfall was experienced in the higher reaches of northern, central and southern Kashmir. The summer capital Srinagar witnessed high velocity winds amid incessant rainfall throughout the day.

The Jammu region had thundershowers, while the higher regions of Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi had snowfall.

The snowfall has come as a boon for more than 1000 participants who have reached Srinagar to participate in the Winter Games edition of Khelo India that is beginning at Gulmarg on Wednesday.

The ski-resort of Gulmarg is having snowfall since Monday evening.

Electric supply was badly disrupted in the Jammu region due to rain.
