The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) arrested 10 escaped undertrials from Nepal, following a massive jailbreak in the neighbouring country, while attempting to cross over to Indian territory through the porous border in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district late Tuesday night.

The detainees were handed over to the police at Bhittha and Surasand police stations in Sitamarhi.

Bhittha police station in-charge Manoj Kumar confirmed the arrest of six Nepali inmates Ramgoolam Mahato, Vinod Rai, Mojahid Ansari, Surendra Sah Sonar, Indresh Mandal and Krishna Kumar Mahato. The two Indian nationals were identified as Mohan Kumar and Guddu Kumar

Surasand Police Station in-charge Dhananjay Kumar Pandey confirmed the detention of two more individuals, Riyaz Dafali and Rajesh Tamang, both Nepali citizens.

In the aftermath of these arrests, security has been significantly tightened not only in Sitamarhi but also across six other border districts of Bihar. Joint patrols by the SSB and local police have been intensified. All individuals crossing the border are being thoroughly screened.

Authorities stated that while the situation remained under control, vigilance will not be relaxed. The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the designated border guarding force, continues to maintain round-the-clock surveillance along Bihar’s 729-kilometre-long porous border with Nepal spread across seven districts East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Araria, Supaul, and Kishanganj.

Sitamarhi Superintendent of Police Amit Ranjan said special attention is being paid to suspicious persons and activities. Regular patrols and coordinated checks with the SSB are underway to maintain law and order and ensure border security. Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) are supervising these operations in border areas.
