At least one person was killed, 6-8 people were swept away in a strong current, and three were rescued in two rain-related mishaps in Sawai Madhopur district, where monsoon fury has flooded many villages, disrupting normal life.
According to police sources, four persons aboard a car were swept away in an overflowing rivulet, Kushali Darra, across the Sawai Madhopur-Khandhar Highway early Friday. The car and the body of one of the occupants were recovered by rescuers from Civil Defence and SDRF 200 metres away from the highway. Search for the remaining persons is underway.

In another mishap, a boat carrying 10 persons capsized in Surwal Dam in Sawai Madhopur on Friday afternoon. While three people managed to return safely ashore, one was seen trapped, sitting on a wall amidst the water. At least three to four others feared drowned, sources said. The district administration, police, and SDRF officials were present at the dam site; however, no official was in a position to confirm the number of victims.
Meanwhile, the revived monsoon, after a lull of almost three weeks, has flooded many pockets in Sawai Madhopur city and several adjoining villages. Many marooned areas were cut off from the city.
Ranthambore National Park was also flooded, and the tiger sanctuary has been closed for jungle safaris. The District Collector has suspended classes in schools, and waterlogging on tracks has affected rail traffic, causing delays for many long-distance trains.
More or less, a similar situation prevailed in Baran, Tonk, and Bundi districts, with low-lying areas being the worst affected. Several families were evacuated to safer places.
