Advocate Pradip Konwar, representing the Assam government in the investigation, confirmed that all five accused — festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, manager Siddharth Sharma, cousin Sandipan Garg, and personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya — were produced before the court after serving 14 days of police custody, and were now remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

Konwar clarified that none of the five had filed bail petitions and that the investigating agency had not sought further custody as the law does not permit remand beyond 14 days.

“There is no provision to extend custody beyond 14 days. That is the bar,” he told reporters.

Following today’s remand order, the accused have been transferred to Baksa District Jail in Mushalpur.

In court, concerns were raised about the safety of the accused inside the prison; Konwar said the court has directed jail authorities to ensure “full security,” and that the accused are to be treated per the standard jail manual.

On the question of whether any separate case (such as by the Enforcement Directorate) is afoot, Konwar noted that although a case reportedly exists against Shyamkanu Mahanta, the ED has not so far applied for custody.

He also said that any proposal to shift the accused outside Assam for security reasons would depend on an application by the investigating officer and subsequent decision of the court.

Meanwhile, in a parallel development, two individuals from Singapore, Abhimanyu Talukdar and Tanmoy Phukan, who were present on the yacht with Zubeen Garg at the time of the incident, have appeared before Assam’s CID and are being interrogated.

Also, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that the viscera report from the forensic lab in Delhi has given “specific direction” to the probe, suggesting that the investigation is converging on a definitive timeline of events.

The case continues to stir widespread public interest and debate in Assam, with strong demands for transparency, accountability, and speedy justice in the wake of the beloved singer’s tragic death overseas.
