Tiger Woods, the golf legend who has lived through more than his fair share of drama, made headlines this week for all the wrong reasons, and that includes Donald Trump. A new bodycam video released by authorities shows the 50-year-old star in the moments just after he crashed his SUV in Florida, and yes, it’s as dramatic as it sounds.

“Just talking to the President”

The video reportedly shows Woods, where his Range Rover flipped after hitting the back of a truck. A deputy approaches him, trying to keep the golfer close and safe, saying, “hang out down here with us.”

Woods, already on his phone, walks toward the officer, murmuring, “thank you so much, alright, you got it, thanks.” When the deputy reiterates that he just wants Woods nearby, the golfer casually raises his phone and says, “Yeah, I was just talking to the president. Trying to get away from everybody.”

DUI arrest and alleged drugs

The situation quickly took a more serious turn. Woods was arrested for DUI after deputies allegedly found two hydrocodone tablets in his pants pocket.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers observed multiple signs of impairment, including bloodshot, glassy eyes and extremely dilated pupils.

Trump speaks out

Donald Trump, who had landed in Miami for an investment summit shortly after Woods’ crash, commented on the accident before the DUI news went public.

“I feel so badly,” Trump said. “He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident and that’s all I know. Very close friend of mine, he’s an amazing person, amazing man. But some difficulty.”

A few days later, Trump spoke to the New York Post, providing more insight into Woods’ struggles, “He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain. He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain.”

Tiger Woods seeks treatment

Following his arrest, Woods took to X (formerly Twitter) to make a public statement. In it, he acknowledged the seriousness of his actions and announced that he would be seeking help.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods wrote. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
