Tannaz Irani has been a familiar face on Indian screens for decades. Films, television, supporting roles, lead parts. She has done it all. But ‘Margao Files’ marks something new for her. It is her first OTT project, and the way she landed it is a story in itself.

How she got the role

The director came to her directly. No audition, no screen test.

“The director offered me the role directly, without an audition. I had initially come in for what was meant to be a two-day part, but things evolved, and I ended up being featured much more prominently in the show,” Tannaz told IANS.

That kind of organic expansion is rare. What started as a small commitment turned into a full-fledged part, and Tannaz says it feels like a meaningful addition to her career.

“This is my OTT debut, and I’m genuinely thrilled. We shot it back in 2022, and it feels like it has released at just the right moment,” she added.

The preparation

Tannaz did not go through an elaborate preparation process for the role, but she did not walk in cold either.

“I didn’t need extensive preparation, but I did rehearse in different ways to strike the right tone, especially with the language. I wanted it to feel natural without being too harsh,” she said.

Getting the language right mattered to her. The tone, the texture of how the character speaks.

Shot in Goa

Margao Files was shot in the mid-island regions of Goa, away from the beach-facing parts that most productions tend to use. The setting gives the series a distinct visual identity that sets it apart from the usual Goa-backdrop fare.

Tannaz also clarified one detail that fans might wonder about. Although veteran actress Zeenat Aman is also part of Margao Files, the two do not share any scenes together.

Career that spans decades

Tannaz Irani has been a part of some well-known Hindi films over the years. She appeared in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, and 36 China Town, among others.

On television, she built a strong presence through shows like ‘Ye Meri Life Hai’, ‘Badi Door Se Aaye Hain’, and ‘Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum’. Her most recent television appearance was in ‘Barsatein’, where she played a supporting character named Beena.

‘Margao Files’ is her first step into the OTT space, and the fact that a two-day role quietly turned into something far more substantial says something about how the project came together.
