Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, ‘Kaantha’ features Dulquer Salmaan alongside veteran actor Samuthirakani and newcomer Bhagyashri Borse. The story seems to revolve around a complicated and strained relationship between a father and son.
From what the teaser shows, Samuthirakani plays a film director who has spent years grooming his son, played by Salmaan, to be a superstar in the Tamil film world. The son, now at the peak of his fame, appears to take control over the filmmaking process.

But things aren’t peaceful between the two. There’s visible tension, anger, and resentment. In one intense moment from the teaser, Samuthirakani is seen choking and throwing chairs at Salmaan.
The teaser opens with a fake movie being made within the film, titled ‘Saantha’, which is described as the “first Tamil horror movie.” Salmaan’s character, however, seems to hijack the creative direction, deciding everything from the shots to the name of the film.
By the end of the teaser, he even changes the film’s title from ‘Saantha’ to ‘Kaantha’; a clear sign of who holds the real power.
The project is being co-produced by Dulquer Salmaan himself and actor-producer Rana Daggubati. Their respective banners, Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media, have joined forces for this ambitious venture. Spirit Media released the teaser on YouTube, where it has already started trending among movie buffs.
Fans won’t have to wait too long for the full film. ‘Kaantha’ is going to hit theatres on September 12, 2025.
Dulquer Salmaan last appeared in ‘Lucky Bhaskar’, which turned out to be a box office success in 2024.
