Vijay’s final film as an actor, ‘Jana Nayagan,’ hit its first major weekday test on Day 5 at box office. The film saw a sharp 68 percent drop in collections after a strong opening weekend.
‘Jana Nayagan’ earned a net of Rs 10.15 crore across 10,436 shows in India on its first Monday. The drop follows a blockbuster opening weekend that had carried the film past the Rs 200 crore mark within days.

The Tamil version led the earnings, contributing Rs 8.40 crore. The Hindi version added Rs 1.20 crore, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 55 lakh.
Overseas, the film earned Rs 4 crore on Day 5. That takes its total overseas gross to Rs 75.50 crore.
Worldwide total
Combining domestic and international numbers, the film’s worldwide gross collection has now reached around Rs 233.24 crore in just five days.
According to Sacnilk estimates, the film has collected close to Rs 157.74 crore gross in India, alongside the Rs 75.50 crore earned overseas.
A milestone against ‘Sikandar’
Despite the Monday slowdown, the film has already crossed a notable benchmark. Its worldwide total has now surpassed the lifetime worldwide collection of ‘Sikandar,’ the Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna starrer, which finished its run at Rs 184.89 crore.
Trade watchers note that clearing this benchmark in just five days reflects the scale of the film’s opening, even with the expected weekday dip.
Behind the numbers
‘Jana Nayagan’ opened in theaters on July 23 to significant buzz among fans. Much of that early energy came from Vijay’s loyal fan base and heavy advance bookings.
The film had a difficult road to release. It was originally slated for a January launch but faced delays tied to a censor battle. It was also hit by piracy issues, with pirated copies circulating across platforms including WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and various torrent sites ahead of its release.
Directed by H. Vinoth, the film stars Vijay alongside Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, and Mamitha Baiju. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Big budget, bigger expectations
Reports peg the film’s budget between Rs 300 crore and Rs 500 crore. Vijay reportedly commanded a fee in the range of Rs 250 crore to Rs 275 crore for the role, making him one of the highest-paid actors in Indian cinema.
Given the scale of that investment, industry observers say the current numbers, while strong, are not yet enough to call the film a clear commercial success. The film will need sustained collections through the coming weeks to justify its budget.
