‘Songs of Paradise’ trailer: When music carries the memory of a whole valley, it becomes more than just sound. It becomes history. That is exactly what the upcoming streaming film ‘Songs of Paradise’ wants to capture.

The much-awaited trailer, launched on Monday, offers a heartfelt glimpse into the world of Raj Begum, often remembered as the “Nightingale of Kashmir.”

The film draws inspiration from the life of Padma Shri awardee Raj Begum, whose songs became the voice of a generation. It tells her story across two time periods, with actress and musician Saba Azad playing the younger version of Raj Begum, while veteran star Soni Razdan brings to life her older years.

For Saba, the experience was nothing short of eye-opening. Speaking about the project, she shared how she had not known much about Raj Begum until she stepped into her role.

“As a musician, I thought I had heard everything. But discovering Raj Begum was like opening a hidden treasure chest. Her life, her strength, and her vast musical world inspired me deeply. This is not just about music. It is about resilience, independence, and the power of a woman’s voice. I can’t wait for people to watch ‘Songs of Paradise’ and celebrate Kashmir’s rich musical culture.”

With compositions by Abhay Sopori and soulful vocals by Masrat Un Nissa, the soundtrack aims to echo the beauty and depth of Kashmiri music while paying respect to Begum’s unforgettable contribution.

Soni Razdan, who steps into the shoes of the older Raj Begum, also spoke about how deeply the script touched her.

“When I first read it, I knew this was a story I had to be part of. Raj Begum’s life was not just about singing. It was about carrying the spirit of Kashmir through decades of change. Playing her was a profound experience because she stood for resilience, strength, and cultural pride.”

The film is helmed by Danish Renzu. He co-wrote the film along with Niranjan Iyengar and Sunayana Kachroo.

‘Songs of Paradise’ comes in presentation of Excel Entertainment and production of under the banners of Apple Tree Pictures Production and Renzu Films Production. The film will premiere on August 29 on Prime Video.
