Siliguri set for 19th Int’l film fest

According to organisers the venue for the film festival is set to be Dinabandhu Mancha. The inaugural ceremony on 19 November will be held at 6 pm.

The Siliguri Cine Society is once again set to organise a film festival, which they have been organising since the past 18 years. The 19th Siliguri International Film Festival- 2018 is scheduled to be held between 19 and 26 November.

However, the association also organises a short film and documentary film festival– Siliguri International Short and Documentary Film Festival–which is part of the Siliguri International Film Festival.

The 6th Siliguri International Short and Documentary Film Festival is scheduled to be held between 13 and 16 November in the Ramkinkar Hall. Films will be screened every day from 2 pm to 8 pm.

“We have selected 66 films from the 205 entries that will be screened at the film festival. The inauguration is on 13 November and the inaugural movie will be Myths of Dinajpur, a short film by Pradeep Choudhury. Also, a short film by Konkona Chakraborty, who is a resident of Los Angeles, will be screened at the film festival. The jury will decide on the best short film, best documentary, best cinematography and best director,” Pradip Nag, a member of the Siliguri Cine Society, told a press conference here on Monday.

The Siliguri Cine Society is organising the festival in association with the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, the Federation Film Societies of India (East Region) and the Dinabandhu Mancha Advisory Committee.

The venue for the film festival is set to be Dinabandhu Mancha. The inaugural ceremony on 19 November will be held at 6 pm, organisers said.

The film festival is scheduled to be inaugurated by film director and producer, Arindam Sil, and the chief guest for the occasion will be Tourism Minister Gautam Deb, along with actress Tuhina Das and President of the Federation Film Societies of India, ER, Premendra Majumdar.

“A total of 17 films from nine countries will be screened at the film festival. This year, we also celebrate 100 years of Bengali Cinema. Films from nine different countries– India, Switzerland, Sweden, Nepal, Bangladesh, Chile, UK, Vietnam and Germany- – will be screened,” Minister Deb said.
