In a recent conversation with IANS, Shivani Gosain reflected on her past choices, clarifying a much-discussed statement she once made, that marriage was a mistake.

“I’m not against marriage,” she said, “but in my case, I made wrong decisions.”

She further revealed that the consequences of those choices were serious, including emotional, physical, and social abuse.

“Both marriages were painful experiences,” she said, admitting that one of them has led to an ongoing criminal case, which limits what she can say. “I went through mental and physical trauma. It pushed me into a shell, not just personally, but professionally too. It took me a long time to bounce back.”

Despite these setbacks, Shivani’s perspective on life remains grounded in her belief in karma, destiny, and divine justice. She acknowledged that not everyone will face what she did, and she doesn’t generalize her experience to the idea of marriage itself. “Everyone has their path. Mine just had a lot of bumps.”

Looking back at her television career, she remembers the peak days of Indian daily soaps, when shows like ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ and ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’ were more than just entertainment, they were part of people’s routines. “There was no social media back then,” she said, “but people still recognized us, even on the streets. They’d ask for photos, talk to us like they knew us. It was heartwarming.”

She recalled the unmatched popularity of those shows, pointing out how TRP ratings often soared above 26, a number unimaginable in today’s TV landscape.

“Today, people celebrate 0.1 TRPs,” she joked, “but back then, we were living a golden era. I’m thankful I got to be part of it.”

With over a decade in the entertainment industry, Shivani has seen television evolve. From family dramas to mythological epics and fantasy series, she has worked across genres, and still looks for challenging roles that allow her to grow as an artist.

“I don’t want to just be there. I want to do roles that matter, that let me perform,” she said.

Her acting credits include not just her iconic roles but also appearances in ‘Kabhi Saas Kabhi Bahu’, ‘Saraswatichandra’, ‘Love U Zindagi’, ‘Piya Ka Ghar Pyaara Lage’, ‘Rang Badalti Odhani’, and ‘Choti Sarrdaarni’.
