Fans of the ‘Scream’ series have reason to be excited as actor and director Matthew Lillard shares his thoughts on the upcoming ‘Scream 7’.
The film, directed by Kevin Williamson and written by Guy Busick from a story by James Vanderbilt and Busick, continues the story after ‘Scream VI’ (2023) and marks the seventh installment in the iconic slasher franchise.

“I’m thrilled to be back,” he said, but added he also feels some pressure. “I’m nervous, because at this point in my life, the only thing I can do is sort of ruin how people consider Stu,” Lillard admitted.
He joked about wanting to avoid disappointing fans after all these years.
The 55-year-old actor also reflected on a recent ad he did for Exact Sciences’ Cologuard test, which encourages people to get screened for colon cancer.

He said it made him even more aware of the risks involved in returning to a beloved role: “Especially if I come back and I suck or I was lame.”
Lillard will join original cast members Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers), and David Arquette, along with Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Roger L. Jackson, and new faces Isabel May and Joel McHale.

Despite the familiar company, Lillard admitted he has not yet seen the final movie and is both nervous and excited about how it will turn out.
“I haven’t seen the movie yet. I don’t know if it works, but it’s a risk. And it’s a risk that I was excited to take,” he said. “At the same time, I’m nervous to see the outcome. I hope people like it.”
As fans prepare to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original ‘Scream’, Lillard revealed he has no special plans. He reflected on the legacy of the film. He recalled how they revealed him as one of the killers behind the Ghostface mask in the first movie.
Speaking at Silver Scream Con in Worcester, Massachusetts, on September 14, Lillard expressed optimism for the long-awaited sequel.
“The movie’s fantastic, and I’m really excited for people to see it,” he said. “It’s not gonna ruin the franchise, that’s the good news.”
‘Scream 7’ is going to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
