The trailer of the latest episode of Star Wars Rebels (SWR), Iron Squadron had raised hopes after some above-average installments.
Another Grand Admiral Thrawn appearance had been touted and while the red-eyed tactician makes his presence felt, it is too fleeting to leave a mark.
And Iron Squardon peters out after an initial high, failing to truly excite as we meet a brave but out-of-their-depth crew who are fighting a guerrilla war on their own terms against the iron hand of the Empire.
Granted, there are some fun moments, not least when the precocious Mark (Leader of the Iron Squadron), keeps asking whether the current Empire vessel is a Star Destroyer or not.
Mark, nephew of Commander Sato, leads his merry band of three rebels and much like Robin Hood, doesn’t care about the odds.
While all that is swell, the Ghost crew arrives at just about the time he is about to get fatally overwhelmed and save his bacon.
The Rebels continue to outwit the Empire with such ease that prompts yawns. If such a vast majority of the Imperial officers were dimwits they would have overthrown the yoke long before a certain Skywalker came to the fore?
Such predictable climaxes, whether they are daring supply runs or bold rescue missions are bogging down an otherwise good show, something the show-runners should take note of before it’s too late.
