Mike Smith, the Canadian actor best known for playing Bubbles in the comedy series ‘Trailer Park Boys’, has been charged with sexual assault. The charges were officially filed in Nova Scotia provincial court on October 2 according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

The alleged incident is reported to have taken place in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on December 30, 2017. As part of the court’s conditions, Smith is not allowed to contact the alleged victim or go near their home, workplace or school.

In response to the news, the production company behind ‘Trailer Park Boys’, Trailer Park Boys Inc., released a statement acknowledging the charges. The company said, “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”

The company also confirmed that Smith has stepped away from his role as managing director amid the ongoing legal proceedings.

‘Trailer Park Boys’, a mockumentary-style comedy series, first aired in 2001 on Canada’s Showcase network and gained international attention when Netflix picked it up in 2014. The show revolves around three residents of a fictional trailer park; Julian (John Paul Tremblay), Bubbles (Mike Smith), and Ricky (Robb Wells) who find themselves constantly in chaotic and absurd situations all while being followed by a documentary crew.
