It’s been 12 years since the release of the film ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, a romantic drama and one of the highest grossing films of 2006.

In spite of its commercial success and critical praise outside India, the film received polarised responses from the audience and critics at home for exploring themes of extra-marital affair and adultery.

On Saturday, the film’s director Karan Johar took to Twitter to express his view on how the film is treated today.

Johar who has several films lined up such as, ‘Student Of The year 2’, ‘Kalank’ and ‘Takht’, also said that ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ is discussed and better understood today.

The 53-year-old filmmaker said that the film is very special to him since it includes his dream cast Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji.

“A film that will always remain special to me! Had polarised responses but is discussed and probably understood better today! My dream cast Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji,” he wrote.

The cast of the film ‘Preity Zinta’ too shared an image on the social media, remembering the film. She has mentioned in her caption that the film was ahead of it’s time that showed the different dynamics of marriage.

‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ is a film revolving around two characters Dev and Maya, played by Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherji, respectively, who form an extra-marital relationship while trying to save their failing marriages.
