Lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar was conferred an honorary doctorate by the Jamia Hamdard University on Monday.
Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi were present at the university’s, Jash-e-Adab, a three day poetry festival celebrating Kaifi Azmi’s centenary year.
Shabana Azmi took to twitter to announce the news.

A special convocation was organized at the university, where Javed Akhtar was given the honorary doctorate in literature. He is also the recipient of Padma Shri(1999), Padma Bhushan(2007), Sahitya Akademi Award and five National film Awards.
Previous recipients of honorary doctorates from the university include economist Amartya Sen and former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
