Legendary composer Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja has shared an exciting update for music lovers, revealing that the writing of his second symphony is nearly complete. The announcement comes as the maestro marked five years since moving into his current studio, a space that has witnessed some of his most ambitious creative pursuits.

Taking to social media, Ilaiyaraaja reflected on the moment, writing that February 3, 2026, marks both the studio anniversary and the near completion of his second symphony.

The composer had first announced plans to begin work on his second symphony in October last year. Following a performance at Dubai Opera, Ilaiyaraaja expressed gratitude to audiences for their overwhelming response to Valiant, his debut western classical symphony.
The Dubai concert was part of a broader global journey for Valiant, which Ilaiyaraaja has described as one of the highest achievements of his musical career.
In an earlier message shared during Deepavali, Ilaiyaraaja revealed that the new symphony would begin after observing his mother’s death anniversary, a moment of deep personal significance. He had also spoken about composing an additional piece titled Symphonic Dancers, alongside work on the symphony.
Ilaiyaraaja created history on March 8 last year when he became the first Indian composer to present a western classical symphony.
The landmark performance took place at London’s Eventim Apollo Theatre, with the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra joining him on stage. The collaboration marked a rare and celebrated convergence of Indian musical legacy and western classical tradition.
Taking the Symphony to the World
Upon returning to India, Ilaiyaraaja announced plans to take Valiant to audiences across the globe, confirming performances in 13 countries. Emphasising the importance of sharing the work with his listeners, he said that such a composition represents the pinnacle of musical expression.
As the second symphony edges closer to completion, anticipation continues to build around what promises to be yet another defining chapter in Ilaiyaraaja’s extraordinary career.
