This isn’t the first time Smith came close to the galaxy far, far away. He was once cast in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ but never made it to the final cut.

In an earlier interview with the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Smith shared that the role he was offered was a major one, possibly even the son of Emperor Palpatine, although he never confirmed the details.

“We were very close,” he said back in 2021. “It was a really cool part with a big impact on the story. But things changed, and the role was dropped. So I never actually filmed anything for it.”

Now, he finally gets his chance.

‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ is a fresh addition to the massive ‘Star Wars’ franchise. While not much is out yet about the plot or Smith’s exact character, his role as a villain promises something dark and exciting for fans.

Smith’s acting resume is already packed with variety; from sci-fi and period drama to horror and thrillers. He has appeared in ‘Morbius’, ‘The Crown’, and ‘Last Night in Soho’. Up next, he will also star in Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Caught Stealing’, alongside Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz.

The script for ‘Starfighter’ has been written by Jonathan Tropper. He is popular for working on ‘The Adam Project’ and ‘This Is Where I Leave You’. He also created the Apple TV+ series ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’.

Directed by Shawn Levy, ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ is going to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
