Actor Buddy Duress, known for his roles in indie films such as “Good Time” and “Heaven Knows What,” has passed away at the age of 38. His brother, Christopher Stathis, confirmed that Duress died of cardiac arrest resulting from a combination of drugs in November 2023.

Born as Michael C. Stathis in Queens, New York, in May 1985, Duress made his mark in the film industry through his collaborations with the Safdie Brothers. His journey into acting began with his role in the Safdie’s 2014 feature “Heaven Knows What,” shortly after meeting Josh Safdie following his release from Rikers Island for drug-related charges. Despite his troubled past, Duress found his passion for acting through these connections, eventually starring alongside Robert Pattinson in the acclaimed film “Good Time.”

Following his breakout role, Duress continued to grace the screen in various feature and short films, showcasing his undeniable talent. However, his personal struggles persisted, leading to brushes with the law and further incarcerations, including arrests for grand larceny and threats of arson.
