‘War 2’ Review: The much-anticipated ‘War 2’ is finally in theatres, but the response from audiences has been far from unanimous. Released on 14 August 2025, just ahead of the Independence Day weekend, the film entered cinemas with enormous expectations.

While many fans are praising its action and star power, others are calling it over-hyped, saying the story doesn’t quite match the scale of the production.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, ‘War 2’ is the sixth film in the YRF Spy Universe and a direct sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’. This time, Hrithik Roshan returns as the suave and skilled spy Kabir, joined by Telugu superstar N. T. Rama Rao Jr., who makes his debut in the franchise.

Kiara Advani takes on the female lead, while Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor appear in key supporting roles. The story is written by Shridhar Raghavan and Abbas Tyrewala, from an original idea by Chopra.

One thing everyone seems to agree on is that ‘War 2’ is visually impressive. Released in IMAX, 4DX, D-Box, ICE, Dolby Cinema, and standard formats, the film offers an immersive viewing experience.

However, while the action has earned applause, the plot has divided viewers. Some fans on X (formerly Twitter) feel the movie has “too many twists for its own good,” while others complained about a “slow middle act” that disrupts the momentum.

‘War 2’ X review:

Even among the criticism, the cast has received near-universal praise. Hrithik Roshan’s return as Kabir has been called “magnetic”. Several fans said his action scenes and screen presence are worth the ticket price alone.

NTR Jr.’s entry into the franchise has been equally celebrated, with viewers appreciating his charisma and physicality. Kiara Advani has also been praised for playing a bold, intelligent character.

Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor bring authority to the story, but some fans felt their roles were under-used.

But there are some negative reactions too.

Within hours of its release, hashtags like #War2, #HrithikRoshan, and #NTRJr began trending. But unlike some blockbuster releases that get almost universal praise, the ‘War 2’ conversation has been more balanced: a mix of glowing admiration and sharp criticism.
