A wave of grief swept Bollywood this week as the legendary actor Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at the age of 89. Three days later, his wife and iconic actress Hema Malini took to Twitter to pour out her heart remembering not just the star but the man who was her anchor through life’s highs and lows.
In her emotional note, Hema Malini described Dharmendra as her confidant, friend, and guide. “Dharam ji,” she began sharing that he was everything to her, a loving husband, devoted father to their daughters Esha and Ahana, a philosopher, a poet, and her ‘go-to’ person in all times of need. She fondly recalled his effortless charm, humility, warmth with which he touched everyone in her family.

She went on to praise his unparalleled contribution to Indian cinema highlighting both his talent and his universal appeal.
“As a public personality, his talent, his humility despite his popularity, and his universal appeal set him apart as a unique icon, unequalled among all legends,” she wrote.
Reflecting on her personal loss, Hema Malini said the void left by his passing is something she will carry for the rest of her life, even as she cherishes the countless memories they shared.

Dharmendra, often fondly called the ‘He-Man’ of Indian Cinema, had been unwell for some time. On November 10, the family admitted him to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to a decline in his health. But they discharged him two days later to continue treatment at home under his family’s care.
Despite these efforts, the actor passed away peacefully on November 24. His final rites took place at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai.
Dharmendra leaves behind a large and loving family. He is survived by his first wife, Prakash Kaur, his second wife Hema Malini, and six children: Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta, and Ajeita from his first marriage, along with Esha and Ahana Deol from his second. He has 13 grandchildren.
