“What a journey we have had… each carving our own way, and today, to meet again on this special stage, the highest award in our country, to honour your extraordinary talent! Congratulations, Shah,” Gowariker wrote. He also posted a photo of himself with the ‘Jawan’ star from the National Awards ceremony, held in Delhi.

This moment carried extra meaning because the two had earlier worked together in ‘Swades’ (2004). The film, remembered as one of Shah Rukh’s most powerful performances, still holds a special place in Indian cinema. Interestingly, ‘Swades’ also brought home two National Awards: one for Best Cinematography and another for Best Male Playback Singer.

On Tuesday, the actor was formally honoured with the Rajat Kamal award by President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. He received the Best Actor Award for his role in ‘Jawan’, a film that became a blockbuster and also marked a turning point in his long career.

This year’s National Awards saw Shah Rukh sharing the Best Actor title with Vikrant Massey, who was recognised for his widely appreciated performance in ’12th Fail’. The ceremony was also special for Shah Rukh’s close friends from the film industry: Karan Johar and Rani Mukerji, who too went home with awards that evening.

The winners for the 71st National Film Awards had been declared back in August. At that time, Shah Rukh had posted an emotional thank-you video for his fans, colleagues, and the government.

Speaking directly to the camera, he said, “Thank you for honouring me with the National Award. Thanks to the jury, the I&B ministry. Iss samman ke liye Bharat Sarkar ka dhanyawaad. Overwhelmed with the love showered upon me. Half a hug to everyone today…”

Since the announcement, messages of love have been pouring in for the actor from all corners of the country.
