Remember Anu Aggarwal, the “Aashiqui girl” who won hearts in the 1990s? The actress recently took to social media to revisit one of the scariest moments of her career, an on-set accident that came after a near-fatal car crash.

Anu shared a few stills from one of her movies and revealed the shocking details of what happened. She wrote about how she was hospitalised after a serious accident, only to collapse again due to a wrong injection hitting a nerve. “I screamed, collapsed again. The next day, I was back on set. My leg was injured. Bandaged,” she said.

Show must go on

Even with her leg in a bandage, Anu didn’t let the production stop. The costume she wore had a slit on the injured side, which the team quickly altered to the other side so shooting could continue.

She recalled shooting with hundreds of dancers on a palace set over multiple days, all while her leg was still healing.

“The producer’s money. Time. Everything at stake. I couldn’t let that suffer because of me,” she wrote.

Anu credited meditation for helping her stay disciplined and strong. “After Aashiqui, I had started meditating twice a day, no matter where I was. That discipline stayed with me. So I showed up. Fully. Later, they said I was extremely professional,” she added.

From stardom to survival after ‘Aashiqui’

The post also revisited the tragic car accident that changed her life in 1999. Anu had been in a coma for weeks, with her recovery affecting not just her physical health but also her mental well-being. It required years of rehabilitation before she could return to normal life and work.

Anu Aggarwal rose to fame in the early 1990s with Mahesh Bhatt’s musical hit ‘Aashiqui’, which became a massive success and earned her the affectionate title of “Aashiqui girl.”

She went on to act in films like ‘King Uncle’, ‘Khal-Naaikaa’, and ‘Return of Jewel Thief’.
