Actor Ali Fazal remembered his late mother on June 17, marking her sixth death anniversary. He shared an emotional note and old photographs on his official Instagram account.
Fazal posted two unseen pictures of his mother from her younger days. In the caption, he said a part of him died the same day his mother passed away. He wrote that he was buried in spirit while she was buried in body, and called every day since a gift. He signed off the note with “Until then Amma.”

The ‘Fukrey’ actor kept the tone personal and reflective. He did not mention any public event or gathering tied to the day. The post stayed limited to his own memories and feelings.
Reflection in his daughter
Fazal also spoke about his daughter, Zuneyra, in the same post. He said he sees a reflection of his mother in her. The actor admitted that he sometimes imagines the kind of grandmother his mother would have been, calling it a “funny ole grandmum” moment he plays out in his mind.
This is not the first time Fazal has connected his daughter to his mother’s memory. He has spoken in the past about how fatherhood changed his outlook on loss and family.
Last year’s tribute
Fazal marked the anniversary last year as well, with a different note. At the time, he wrote about saying goodbye to two people on the same day, his mother and the younger version of himself. He described it as a strange feeling, where another part of him seemed to return and attach itself to who he is now.
Losing his mother in 2020
Fazal’s mother passed away in 2020. The actor has chosen to mark the anniversary publicly each year since, sharing old photographs and personal notes on social media. He has largely kept details about her passing private, focusing his posts on memory and emotion rather than circumstances.
On the work front
Away from personal matters, Fazal is currently receiving attention for his role in the web series ‘Raakh’. The show is set in Delhi in the 1970s. It is loosely based on a real and infamous case involving the kidnapping and murder of two siblings.
Fazal plays a sub-inspector named Jayprakash in the series. He described the character as someone who keeps his emotions hidden while working to solve a larger crime. Speaking about his preparation, Fazal said he limited his own emotional expression on set to suit the character’s restrained nature.
‘Raakh’ is directed by Prosit Roy. It is created and written by Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket, with dialogues by Ayush Trivedi. The cast includes Sonali Bendre, Aamir Bashir, Akash Makhija, Ramandeep Yadav, Divya Sharma, Vivaan Sharma, Anshul Chauhan, Rakesh Bedi, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya.
