Aishwarya Rai Bachchan moves Delhi HC to stop misuse of her name and image

Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has taken legal action to protect her identity. She has approached the Delhi High Court to stop the unauthorised use of her identity, specifically her name, pictures, and public persona on websites, social media, and commercial products.

The case was heard by Justice Tejas Karia, who indicated that the court might issue orders to prevent such misuse. The next hearing is scheduled for January 15, 2026.

Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing Aishwarya, told the court that her identity is being widely exploited. He said that many websites falsely claim to be her official platforms, confusing fans and the public.

There have also been unauthorised products like mugs, T-shirts, and drinkware featuring her name and images.

“These actions are purely for commercial gain and are illegal,” Sethi emphasized.

Sethi also highlighted a particularly alarming case involving a company called ‘Aishwarya Nation Wealth’. The company allegedly listed Aishwarya as its Chairperson, even though she has no connection to it.

“This is a clear fraud,” he said, stressing that his client had no knowledge or involvement with the company.

The misuse of Aishwarya’s identity has not been limited to commercial products. Sethi informed the court that these images of Rai are digitally morphed, obscene, and AI-generated.

He described this as a violation of her dignity. He also stressed that such images are often sexual in nature, and deeply disturbing and unacceptable.

Google, represented by advocate Mamta Rani, explained that any online content removal would need specific URLs for action. Justice Karia noted that while a single, broad order would be helpful, it might be necessary to issue individual injunctions depending on how widespread the violations are.

The Court advised that Aishwarya’s team could provide exact URLs for content removal or follow the Blocking and Screening Instructions (BSI) procedure.

Since the relief sought by the actress is wide-ranging, Justice Karia said orders might have to be issued against each defendant separately.

“If a common order can be made, we will do so. Otherwise, individual injunctions will be issued,” the court added.
