The spotlight of the prestigious Filmfare Awards shone bright on Assam’s talent, as Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Mina Mahanta, and Indrani Baruah were celebrated for their remarkable contribution to the world of cinema. At the heart of this recognition was their animated documentary film ‘Lachit – The Warrior’, a captivating portrayal of the legendary Ahom Military General.

The film’s director, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, currently serving as the IGP of Assam Police, along with producer Mina Mahanta and Indrani Baruah, were honored during the Assam edition of the Filmfare Awards held in Guwahati.

‘Lachit – The Warrior’ has been on a winning streak, clinching 21 awards for the best documentary across various international film festivals. Its inclusion in the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India 2023 further solidified its acclaim.

Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta spearheaded the creation of this animated masterpiece, while Mina Mahanta and Indrani Baruah lent their expertise as producers. The film’s narrative was skillfully crafted by Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, with Anupam Mahanta serving as the Creative Editor.

The story of Lachit Barphukan, the valiant Ahom General, is steeped in history. Facing relentless Mughal invasions during the 1660s, Assam found its savior in Lachit. Under his command, the Ahom forces defied overwhelming odds, driving the mighty Mughals out of Assam in the decisive battle of Saraighat in 1671.

Director Partha Sarathi Mahanta expressed gratitude for the rare recognition bestowed upon ‘Lachit – The Warrior’ by Filmfare. The film’s portrayal of courage and resilience serves as an inspiration, showcasing how even against formidable foes like the Mughals, the spirit of Assam prevailed.

Filmfare, known primarily for its focus on feature films, made an exception for this remarkable documentary, honoring it with a special audio-visual presentation and felicitation for its director and producer. This unprecedented recognition not only highlights the exceptional quality of ‘Lachit – The Warrior’ but also underscores the importance of preserving and celebrating Assam’s rich heritage on a global stage.
