Ansel Elgort will be seen reprising the role of Tony in the Steven Spielberg remake of the classic 1961 movie West Side Story.

The actor will play the role first portrayed by Larry Kert in the original 1957 Broadway musical, which was later turned into a movie starring Richard Beymer as Tony and Natalie Wood as Maria.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg has spent the better part of the year looking for stars for his movie, with actors needing to be able to sing, dance, and act their hearts out for the story that transposes Romeo and Juliet into a 1950s New York setting featuring White and Puerto Rican gangs.

The casting of the 24-year-old actor into West Side Story has put the film’s production to begin in summer of 2019.

Elgort, who debuted with the film Carrie in 2013, is known for his performance in the 2014 movie The Fault in our Stars and the 2017 film Baby Driver.
