ABVP Dominates DUSU Elections: Sweeps 3 Key Positions, NSUI bags 1

The Delhi University (DU) has constituted a Sub-Committee to consider the concerns raised by the Academic Council (AC) members over the proposed internal assessment (IA) scheme under the new curriculum framework.
In the AC meeting on January 25, members were of the view that changing the scheme just three weeks before the completion of the semester is not correct as it will create chaos among students and faculty members.
The newly formed Sub-Committee consists of 25 members with the Dean of Colleges as the chairperson and the Joint Secretary as the Member Secretary. The committee will have to submit a proposal for incorporating teachers’ suggestions and modifications.

Internal assessment, which had earlier 25 per cent weightage, is now proposed to be between 20 per cent and 30 per cent, changing the exam weightage. Calling the changes irrational, teachers said the marks of each paper were increased without any academic justification to 160 for four-credit courses and 80 for two-credit courses.
The scheme distributes separate IA marks towards tutorials for a theory-based paper with credit division. For such a paper, it associates 70 marks towards IA and 90 towards the semester-end exam
According to teachers, splitting IA into two components of lectures and tutorials will take away time from the holistic evolution of the teaching-learning process. The teachers also underlined that the increase in students admissions and termed this short duration for evolution as meaningless.
The weightage to semester-end centralised DU examinations for a theory-based paper has always remained at 75 per cent, but has been reduced to close to 56 per cent. In the new scheme, its weightage will be 90 marks out of 160.
