Two labourers lost their lives after inhaling toxic gas during the maintenance work of a sewage treatment plant at the premises of Balaji Hospital in North Delhi’s Paschim Vihar, Delhi police said on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Birjesh (26) and Vikram (30), both hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were declared brought dead by the attending doctors.

“The duo was working for a private firm which was given the annual maintenance contract (AMC) by the hospital authorities,” the police said. “The incident happened around 6:30 pm on Tuesday,” a senior officer mentioned.
According to police, they were informed about the two medico-legal cases (MLC) by the hospital authorities at Paschim Vihar police station.
After reaching the spot, on preliminary investigation, the cops found that the duo had fallen unconscious during the maintenance work of the carbon filter, being undertaken by the contractor at the hospital.
After this, the crime team, accompanied by the Forensic Science laboratory (FSL), was called to the spot for thorough inspection and documentation, including crime scene photography.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the law, and the investigation is still ongoing by the cops.
The police officers are enquiring with the people nearby to gather further clues in this case, an officer stated.
