Just days after the Lamborghini car crash in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur made national headlines, a tragic hit-and-run incident has been reported from the state capital Lucknow.

A speeding car, which has not been officially identified so far, reported hit an auto-rickshaw and pedestrians near Hanuman Temple in Banthra on Thursday (February 12). Five people were injured in the accident. A 6-year-old child, among the injured, succumbed to the wounds during treatment.

The Lucknow police said they have carried out the inquest proceedings and informed the families.

Media reports, meanwhile, said the car involved in the accident was a Maruti Swift and it was being driven by a Class 12 student.

The accident took place around 6 pm when the student was returning after attending a farewell function at his school. Reports further said a female friend of the boy was also in the car at the time of the incident. Both are said to be minors.

The duo left the accident scene without stopping the car. The boy dropped the girl shortly after the accident and fled.

While the police is reported to have seized the car after tracking the girl, the boy is said to be on the run.

The police are ascertaining whether the boy was driving the car under the influence of alcohol.

The injure are, meanwhile, undergoing treatment at a hospital and are said to be stable.

CCTV footage of the incident from two different angles has also emerged.
