Delhi’s Education Minister, Ashish Sood, on Saturday urged school students to become ‘Swachhata Doot’ (ambassadors of cleanliness) and actively contribute to the city’s cleanliness efforts. The minister made the appeal while volunteering in a cleanliness drive at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School in Najafgarh.

Sood extended his support to the Chief Minister’s initiative, ‘Delhi ko Koode se Azadi: Swachhata Abhiyan,’ launched on Friday. He said, “When it comes to cleanliness, children should not limit themselves to school campuses. Cleaning should become a part of their daily routine—whether it’s in their neighborhoods, streets, markets, malls, temples, or any other public space.”

He further reaffirmed his belief in the power of public participation to make the month-long sanitation drive a success. “This campaign is not just the responsibility of sanitation workers—it is the duty of every citizen. Cleanliness is not just a habit but a civic responsibility, and together, we will make Delhi garbage-free,” the minister said.

Sood emphasized that every department of the Delhi government is fully committed to the special cleanliness drive.

“Every MLA, every councilor, and every government employee in the capital is a responsible partner in this change. Over the next month, we will work together to clean every street, every locality, every market, and every public place, remove garbage, increase greenery, and make cleanliness a permanent habit,” he added.

He also stressed that cleanliness should not be confined to VIP zones but should extend to the true soul of Delhi, which resides in its JJ clusters and unauthorized colonies.

Sood said that, inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government is committed to realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a ‘Swachh Bharat’ (Clean India).
