Cooch Behar police have arrested two more persons from Arunachal Pradesh in connection with the murder of Trinamul Congress leader Amar Roy, who was shot dead in a crowded market on 9 August.

Roy, a resident of Dauaguri under Pundibari police station and son of panchayat pradhan Kuntala Roy, was killed at point-blank range, sparking outrage in the district.

Acting on leads, a special police team raided an area in Arunachal Pradesh yesterday and arrested Narayan Barman alias Bishal (20) and Kishor Barman alias Bhogi (24). “Both are residents of Pundibari In Cooch Behar. We have recovered crucial evidence from them,” the SP said.

He added that investigations are progressing and the police expect to establish the motive behind the murder soon.

According to sources, Amar Roy was also engaged in the transport business, including the movement of sand from riverbeds — a line of activity now under police scrutiny as part of the probe.
