Shikhar Agarwal, one of the prime accused in Bulandshahr violence, was arrested by an investigating team from Hapur on Thursday morning.

Agarwal is one of the main accused in the violence that followed over allegations of cow slaughtering in Syana on 3 December and was at large since then.

He is President of BJP’s youth wing in Syana and his name was included in the FIR lodged by police against 27 named and 60 unidentified persons involved in the violence that led to the death of a cop.

Bulandshahr SP (City) Atul Kumar Srivastava confirmed his arrest on Thursday. He was taken to Syana Kotwali for further interrogation shortly after his arrest and would be presented in the court.

The mob violence claimed the life of police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and a civilian Sumit Kumar.

So far, in its crackdown on the accused in the case, police have managed to nab 36 persons while 50 others are still at large.

Police had earlier arrested another prime accused Yogesh Raj, district co-ordinator of Bajrang Dal, and Pawan Kumar who is associated with RSS.
