The police said Nadeem has been a habitual offender who has been involved in heinous crimes and is an active associate of the Hashim Baba gang.
“With over 13 criminal cases against him, including those under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), murder, robbery, and the Arms Act, Nadeem is a history-sheeter under Jafrabad police station limits,” Nidhin Valsan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), said.
The officer added in his statement further, “We received a tip regarding his whereabouts in the Gali Takhat Wali area on Sunday night.”
Acting on that lead, a team moved to the spot. Nadeem tried to pull out a revolver and flee; however, he was overpowered by the police personnel.
“A US-made revolver and four live cartridges were confiscated from his possession. He could not procure any license for the weapon,” the DCP mentioned, adding that a case under the Arms Act was registered.
During sustained questioning, Nadeem confessed to his involvement in an arms supply racket. Later, after his confession, two more country-made pistols were recovered along with 10 cartridges from his hideouts in Chandani Mahal.
The officer further mentioned that Nadeem was initially arrested in 2005 under the Arms Act, and while he was in prison, he got involved in organised crime.
“He allegedly murdered Athar Abbas in 2017 and eventually joined the Hashim Baba gang, where he was active in arms trafficking and extortion,” Valsan stated.
Even though he was booked under MCOCA in 2019, he continued his criminal activities after his release from jail in February 2025.
“It was alleged that he sourced illegal weapons from regions like Munger in Bihar and parts of Uttar Pradesh,” he added.
