Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Friday said the public mood is shifting in favour of his party with regard to the upcoming by-elections in the 12 wards of the municipal corporation.

He said it was due to the Delhi government’s initiatives for cleanliness, sanitation improving electricity, water supply during summer, waiving penalties on water bills, Yamuna cleaning work, improvements in public transport and several other works, that has generated faith of people in the party.

Sachdeva, taking a dig at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, said that every election in Delhi is important, but the AAP supremo, who is usually seen across the country campaigning for his party, is absent from the MCD by- polls campaigning, calling it “acceptance of defeat”.

Sachdeva claimed that the BJP’s performance in the by-elections will be remarkable.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also took part in the road shows for the candidates at Chandni Chowk, Ashok Vihar and Shalimar Bagh. She said there is a new enthusiasm among the public, and expressed confidence that the party is going to win most wards.

According to Gupta, people of Delhi know very well that this by-election will not affect the power equation of the corporation, claiming that the public wants to use the opportunity to give the BJP a clear majority in the civic body.

The city witnessed elaborate road shows led by ministers, MPs and senior party leaders in Delhi.

Speaking at one of the road shows, MP Harsh Malhotra said that although Vinod Nagar has traditionally been a BJP stronghold, even AAP voters are unhappy with the party’s choice of candidate.

MP Bansuri Swaraj, who was in Greater Kailash ward, said that it is a BJP stronghold, and despite alleged use of money-power by the opposition, they will not succeed.

Similarly, the party held several roadshows across different areas of the city.
