Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh on Wednesday hit out at previous governments for allegedly neglecting the national capital’s rural belt during the past 27 years.

He said the past governments did nothing except indulging in scams, depriving Delhi’s villages and the poor of their rights.

Indraj alleged lack of cooperation from the previous dispensations in Metro’s expansion, UER Road projects, and DDA initiatives, as well as failure to implement key the Central government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat which severely hampered rural Delhi’s progress.

Singh wondered where the funds allocated for sewer systems and other development works during the previous government’s tenure had gone.

He announced that he would personally ensure that investigation into the scams in every Assembly constituency is carried out for complete transparency.

Targeting the previous governments, the Cabinet minister alleged that it was “riddled with scams”.

He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the inauguration of development works under the Gramoday Abhiyan at Bawana on Wednesday, where he also said that now, with improved coordination between the Centre and the Delhi government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Antyodaya is being fulfilled.

He said now, the development is reaching the remote corners of the national capital to create the city into a truly “Viksit Delhi.”

Singh stated that, as part of the ongoing service fortnight, rural Delhi has received a host of new projects, and expressed special gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for his dedicated attention to rural development.

He said back in the year 2023, the LG took special note of rural Delhi’s needs and provided a dedicated fund, which accelerated key works such as the improvement of chaupals, streets, drains, community halls, and gas pipelines, and added that a modern sports complex has also been constructed in Kutubgarh village.

Indraj further said that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has made special budgetary provisions for the Master Plan of Rural Delhi, with clear directions to prioritise the development of link roads and Lal Dora areas.
