The initiative, introduced under the leadership of Water Minister Parvesh Verma, is aimed at encouraging citizens to clear their long-pending dues by availing substantial rebates on late payment surcharges.
The public participation in the scheme seems to be an indicator of their trust in the initiatives by the regime, and also their willingness to contribute towards improving Delhi’s water infrastructure.
Speaking of the public response to the scheme, the water minister has said that the overwhelming participation shows the growing sense of responsibility among Delhi’s citizens.
The LPSC Rebate Scheme was introduced to help consumers settle their old dues without the burden of heavy penalties, he stated.
According to Verma, thousands have come forward to clear their accounts since the launch of the scheme which took place a couple of days ago.
The minister said that the public’s response for the initiative shows that when governance is transparent and people-centric, the people respond with trust and cooperation.
The revenue, he said, through this scheme will be directly utilized to strengthen the city’s water infrastructure, repair pipelines, and improve water supply in colonies that face shortages.
“Our aim is to ensure every drop of water in Delhi is accounted for and reaches every household efficiently, ” he said.
Notably, the LPSC rebate scheme offers graded waivers on late payment surcharges for consumers who voluntarily clear their old water bills.
It primarily targets domestic consumers who have accumulated arrears over the years.
By simplifying the payment process both online and through zonal offices, the government has ensured that even ordinary citizens can easily avail the benefits.
According to officials, digital payments under the scheme have been steadily rising, reflecting the success of the DJB’s efforts to make billing and payment systems more transparent and citizen friendly.
The Water Minister’s office has also directed field teams to assist senior citizens and economically weaker households in availing the scheme before the rebate window closes.
The water board has emphasized that all collections are being monitored in real time to maintain complete transparency.
The funds being collected will be earmarked for maintenance of water supply lines, augmentation of treatment plants, and the ongoing replacement of old pipelines across Delhi, officials said.
According to the minister, “This initiative is not just about revenue; it is about rebuilding a culture of accountability and mutual trust between the government and the people.” the Minister said.
“Every rupee collected will flow back into improving Delhi’s water system. I want to thank every citizen who participated and urge others to make use of this opportunity before the rebate period ends,” Verma said.
