A 20-year-old man has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly duping people through fake invoices and letters by posing as an Indian Air Force officer, officials said on Saturday.

According to the police, the accused, Tasleem Khan, from Rajasthan’s Alwar, was held by the cops along with two mobile phones that were allegedly used in the commission of the crime.

“The incident came to light when the victim, from Delhi’s Chhatarpur, filed a complaint, reportedly saying that she was cheated out of over Rs 2.52 lakh by a man who impersonated an Air Force officer,” said Ankit Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

In her statement, she alleged that Khan sent her fabricated letters and invoices on IAF letterhead, demanding token fees and other types of charges.

DCP Chauhan said a special team was constituted, and the money trail was traced to Alwar.

“Following a raid at village Mukandwas in the Ramgarh area of Alwar, Khan was apprehended and brought back to Delhi,” the officer said.

The officer said that the two seized mobile phones have evidence of fraudulent activities, including chats with multiple victims.

“During questioning, Khan admitted to impersonating an Air Force officer on online platforms and deceiving people into sending him money using fake documents,” DCP Chauhan said.

Officials have identified seven victims so far, and efforts are ongoing to track down others who may have been cheated.
