With a view to ensuring that the benefits of the reservation system reach genuine passengers and are not misused by unscrupulous elements, the Ministry of Railways has announced new rules effective from October 1.

During the first 15 minutes of the opening of general reservation, tickets can be booked through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website or its app only by Aadhaar-authenticated users.

“There will, however, be no change in the timings for booking general reserved tickets through computerized PRS counters of Indian Railways at present,” the Ministry said on Monday.

There will also be no change in the restriction imposed on authorised ticketing agents of Indian Railways, who will continue to be barred from booking opening-day reserved tickets during the first 10 minutes of general reservation.
