Late ASI Raghav had sustained serious injuries during a violent mob attack while on duty at the protests in Bhajanpura. Despite receiving medical treatment, his condition deteriorated, leading to paralysis and a coma until his eventual demise on January 12.
The ceremony also remembered the sacrifices of seven other personnel from the Delhi Police and 178 from various state and central police organizations. The data included personnel from states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Jammu and Kashmir, as well as central forces such as the BSF, CRPF, and CISF.
The Police Commemoration Day observes the anniversary of an event on October 21, 1959, when 10 Indian policemen were martyred in a sudden ambush by Chinese soldiers in Ladakh. The day now serves to honour all police personnel who have laid down their lives in the service of the nation.
