For PDP, LS polls a means to safeguard J&K’s identity: Mehbooba
Mehbooba was taking part in a roadshow in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam area during her election campaign.
After expressing satisfaction over the safety arrangements for Kashmiri students in Dehradun, a delegation of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) added high drama by arranging buses to take about 200 students to J-K.
The incident took place on Tuesday night. After some right-wing activists staged a protest near a hostel last week, the local police enhanced security at institutes and hostels where Kashmiri students were studying and staying.
A group of PDP, led by Rajya Sabha member Faiyaz Ahmed Mir, arrived in Dehradun on Tuesday and interacted with Kashmiri students in different institutes and hostels.

“We are arranging for transportation for those students, who want to go. Others will stay here,” Mir told the media.
The parents of Kashmiri students had every reason to worry, as fake news about a mob surrounding a girls’ hostel and students getting trapped in their rooms went viral on social media.
In fact, minutes after a group collected near a hostel, Uttarakhand Police rushed to the site and disbursed the gathering. But the rumours around the incident were circulated around and Uttarakhand police was forced to launch an online campaign against the fake news.
Uttarakhand Police’s Director General (Law & Order) Ashok Kumar said, “We have provided adequate security arrangements for the students. They had voluntary gone to their home state. We are closely monitoring activities of the suspicious elements.”
Meanwhile, a post on social media states that Mir left Dehradun with 200 J-K students in a bus.
“Senior PDP Leader and MP Fayaz Sahab accompanying about 200 students from Jammu to Kashmir, he has left security cover in Dehradun and is travelling in a bus with all these students,” reads a post on social media titled ‘Join J&K People’s Democratic Party’.
