Development of Old Delhi will now be a priority for both the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the state government, said Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra on Wednesday after the saffron party won the civic body polls after 24 years.

Calling it a “historic” day, particularly for Old Delhi residents, Malhotra said that by electing a BJP Zonal Chairperson in the City and Sadar Zones, municipal councillors connected Old Delhi with the development vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, creating a unique milestone.

He said that in today’s elections for the Zone Chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, municipal councillors demonstrated their faith in the BJP’s motto of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” by electing BJP Chairpersons in 10 out of the 12 municipal zones, thereby choosing to connect their wards with the path of development.

Announcing Usha Sharma’s victory as the party’s chairperson for the Old Delhi zone after 24 years, the Delhi State President assured all councillors, the residents of Old Delhi, and the trading community that the BJP would never disappoint them.

Malhotra also lauded the decision of municipal councillors in the West and South Zones, who have decided to align their wards with the BJP’s development agenda.

Earlier, today, MCD held elections for chairpersons and deputy chairpersons for its 12 zonal committees.
