A 36-year-old man, convicted of murder and who has been absconding while on parole, was arrested in Delhi’s Anand Vihar, police said on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as Deepak Kumar, also known as Sanjay, a resident of Soop village in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, police said in a statement. Police also recovered a sophisticated .32-bore illegal pistol and six live cartridges from the accused’s possession.

Acting on specific intelligence, the Crime Branch conducted a swift and well-coordinated operation on September 30, which led to Kumar’s arrest, a senior officer said, adding that the team arrested the accused after mounting surveillance and laying a trap at Anand Vihar Bus Terminal.

A case was registered under relevant sections of law at the PS Crime Branch, and an investigation was initiated.
During the ongoing investigation, raids were carried out in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to trace and apprehend the source of the arms and ammunition.
Kumar was convicted in a murder case that took place at Sukhpura Chowk in Rohtak, Haryana, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
After being released on parole in 2023, the accused absconded and took up residence in Shivraj Park, Nangloi. During this period, Kumar also got married in the national capital.
In 2015, Kumar and his associates murdered two individuals near the canal in Soop village. Later that same year, he killed his jail associate, Sohanbir, using an iron rod following a quarrel in the Baba Haridas Nagar area.
The accused was also involved in a vehicle theft case registered at the Nihal Vihar Police Station.
The accused was linked to a total of nine cases across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, including four murders, two robberies, two violations of the Arms Act, and one theft.
