A 23-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a six-year-old boy in North West Delhi’s Subhash Place, police said, adding that the act stemmed from a personal grudge.

The DCP further said that the child’s mother told police that her son had gone to a nearby shop around 7 pm on November 3 but did not return home. Fearing her son had been abducted, she reported the matter to the police.

Following her complaint, the police filed an FIR and launched a search operation, scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and sharing the child’s photographs with the local and neighbouring police units, the officer said.

“During the search, the boy was found injured in bushes near the railway tracks and was taken to a hospital for treatment,” the officer said, adding that the accused was later traced and arrested in Shakurbasti.

Following intense questioning, Samem admitted to kidnapping and assaulting the child due to a personal grudge.

“A police team is currently interrogating Shamem to ascertain if others were also involved in the crime. Further investigation is underway,” the DCP added.
