LoP Atishi demands resolution of fuel ban to ELVs within a week

Atishi termed the BJP’s recent letter to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) – a central agency – “pure theatrics”, and warned that the party’s “sham correspondence” and inaction would soon expose its alleged nexus with car manufacturers and scrapping companies.

Calling the 10-year vehicle ban a direct attack on Delhi’s middle class, women, and elderly, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Atishi on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of evading responsibility by hiding behind “court drama”.

At a press conference held at the Delhi Assembly, Atishi termed the BJP’s recent letter to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) – a central agency – “pure theatrics”, and warned that the party’s “sham correspondence” and inaction would soon expose its alleged nexus with car manufacturers and scrapping companies.

She demanded that the BJP-led Central government should bring in a new law within a week to address the concerns of affected vehicle owners. “Sending letters to your own agency is not action,” she said.

“This is an issue that impacts lakhs of Delhi residents – especially the middle class, women who use cars for safety, and senior citizens who depend on personal transport,” she added.

“AAP demands that a proper law be brought immediately to protect Delhi’s citizens – who are now under the constant threat of vehicle seizures, fuel cuts, being stranded, or being forced into lakhs of rupees in unexpected expenses. Only legislation can remove this sword hanging over their heads,” she asserted.
