Recycling as a concept has been one of the most coveted themes for Puja organisers. That way, they not only contribute to the environment, they also show creative thinking on their part.
Udita complex, a high-rise in EM Bypass in South Kolkata, has contributed to the environment by using all recycled products for their pandal.
They used approximately 8,000-10,000 pet bottles for the pandal, apart from old lights, CDs, motherboards, and dish antennas.
They also used sarees, and bedsheets provided by the ladies of the complex for top curtains. The passage was made out of old curtains donated by the residents.
A resident Ayesha Sultana Mohiuddin, who runs a cloud kitchen of her own, provided the support work, implementing the ideas of designer Kaushik Chatterjee.
She said, “Apart from the design input, I also put in my improvisations to work out. The women and a few men of Udita joined together and helped me create the pandal. Of course, we had our carpenters, who have been working with us for a long time and helped erect the structure. It took three weeks to complete the structure and finalise it.”
Regarding the recycled products, Ayesha said they had approached corporates with the idea and they provided the bottles and other stuff. This kind of thing was never attempted at Udita, said another resident, who sounded excited at the achievement.
